I am a freak about the milk that I pump. Not everyone understands why. I spend several hours attached to a pump, making milk, and I pretty much hate every second of it. Don’t get me wrong, this is a sacrifice that I willingly chose and I am happy to do it for the benefit of my son. However, it takes up a lot of my precious time. Therefore, I am The Milk Nazi.
I don’t let anyone else thaw milk, make up bottles, store my milk etc, etc. When we were running out of room in the freezer, i suggested to my husband that we get a deep freezer. He didn’t see the benefit as it was only going to be used for 6 months to a year. I told him I could go to Costco and find plenty of things to put in the freezer after we used up all the milk! He suggested we take it over to his brother’s house and put it in the freezer in his garage. What? Are you kidding me? Put my liquid gold in a place where I can’t check on it daily, or get to it if I need it? What if they are getting into the freezer and knock some bottles out and they break? Or what if he thinks he can store stuff on top of the bags and they get torn? Somehow, my husband didn’t see how this was a problem. I put the kibosh on that idea and we got a deep freezer.
I also save every last drop that my son doesn’t eat from the bottle. I know, I know, this is totally against the rules. But, think about it, if he skips 10mL at the end of every bottle, over 6 feeds a day, that’s 2 ounces! That’s like half of an entire feeding! A little safety note- I always put it in the fridge immediately after he doesn’t finish it, and never mix it with fresh milk. This doesn’t happen more than once every couple of days, so I don’t feel too bad about it. You should do the research yourself before doing this.
Since I’m the one making the milk, I think I get to be a dictator about how it’s used, right?!
